In Saint-André-d'Allas, in the Périgord noir, the château du Roc stands on a site occupied since the 16th century by an earlier noble residence, before being rebuilt in its present form around the mid-18th century. The elongated main building, marked by a central wrought-iron balcony, is flanked by two wings set at right angles. In the courtyard, two small flat-roofed lodges frame a wrought-iron gate set into a curved enclosing wall. Local legend attributes its construction to Louis XV, said to have wanted to house one of his mistresses there, away from the court.
