What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le Poyet semble voir débuter son histoire avec celle de la famille de Saix en 1312 avec Guichard de Saix qui rend hommage au comte de Forez pour son fief. Les Saix tombent en quenouille après plus de deux siècles et demi. La famille Ronchevol reprend le flambeau peu de temps, Jacques de Ronchevol n'ayant que des filles. L'aînée, Anne-Minerve, épouse François de Sainte-Colombe en 1578, ce dernier devient seigneur du Poyet. Les Sainte-Colombe se distinguèrent au service des rois de France. Jean-Louis Eléonor de Sainte-Colombe, né en 1733 fit de grandes rénovations au château en 1764, il avait décidé qu'il occuperait ce domaine avec sa jeune épouse trois ans plus tard. Il fut ensuite exécuté à Lyon en 1794. Son fils, Jean-Baptiste repris le château jusqu'à sa mort en 1816. La famille se sépare du Poyet vers 1854, le domaine passe entre plusieurs mains.
