The château de Jarnosse stands in the village of the same name, in the Loire department, on the border between the Beaujolais and Lyonnais regions. An old fortified house whose seigneurial origins date back at least to the eleventh century, it still shows defensive features on its façades, arrow slits, loopholes and turrets, evidence of its role watching over the old royal road between Paris and Lyon. The site has been under a long-term rescue programme run by a local association together with the Fondation du Patrimoine, after being selected among the monuments backed by the Bern heritage mission.
