In Chenu, in the Sarthe department, the château du Paty largely dates from the late 15th century, when Hélie de Bourdeille, archbishop of Tours, had the towers renovated and the moat widened around an older manor house. The towers still show loopholes from the 13th and 14th centuries, while a vaulted cellar beneath the building may go back to the 12th century. A bridge over the moat, built in 1850, replaced the former drawbridge as the main entrance to the estate.
