Its present appearance dates mostly from the 15th century, when Louis de Beaumont, a close advisor to kings Charles VII and Louis XI, turned the fortress into a residential manor. Visitors can see a partly ruined keep, a chapel with an unusually well-preserved old gallery, and a flamboyant Gothic balcony attributed to a Florentine architect. The surrounding parkland includes ponds, meadows and hedgerows that shelter protected wildlife and plants.
