What the French Ministry of Culture records

Les Hayes constituaient un fief relevant de la baronnie de Rillé. Le château fut élevé au 15e siècle à la place d'un édifice plus ancien, probablement du 14e siècle, et dont subsiste au nord une tour cylindrique conservée en partie dans la construction. Le bâtiment est flanqué, à l'angle nord-est, d'une tour carrée dont l'étage supérieur a été supprimé, et à son angle sud-ouest d'une autre tour, probablement rectangulaire, mais qui fut supprimée au 17e siècle. Sur la façade sud fait saillie une tour polygonale contenant un escalier à vis en pierre. Au 17e siècle, l'édifice fut prolongé à l'ouest par un bâtiment de même élévation. Une chapelle fut construite à l'ouest de la cour, limitée à l'est par un bâtiment de communs qui aboutit, au sud, à une tour carrée du 15e siècle.
