To make a day of it

Château des Ducs stands in Argentan (Orne), in the Normandie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages). No visits are on record for this building.

In Argentan, on the southern slope of the town's hill, the Château des Ducs still shows its 14th-century Grand Logis, built for Pierre II of Alençon on the site of an earlier medieval fortress. The place hosted Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Francis I and Catherine de Medici over the centuries, and now serves as the town's courthouse. Visitors come for the historical weight of the walls rather than for a restored period setting, since the building is not run as an ordinary museum.
