Rising on a mound at the center of the town, the ruins of Bricquebec Castle recall one of the most significant strongholds of Cotentin in Normandy. The site still holds a 14th-century keep and a walled enclosure with towers, built on the site of an earlier fortress dating back to the 10th or 11th century. Seat of the Bertran and later the Paisnel barony, the castle was fought over during the Hundred Years' War, falling under English control before being retaken by French forces.
