What the French Ministry of Culture records

Pendant le 11e siècle, les comptes de Conflent et de Cerdagne avaient leur palais à Corneilla et y résidaient. Par la suite, Corneilla demeura un centre important, siège d'un bailliage royal. Le château, aujourd'hui remplacé par diverses constructions, fut dès l'origine entouré d'une ceinture fortifiée. Cette enceinte séparait le château de l'église prieurale. La tour ronde n'est probablement pas antérieure au 12e siècle. Elle présente quelques assises en galets disposés en épi. La courtine adjacente ainsi que l'ancienne porte d'accès au chemin de ronde, paraissent indiquer une époque antérieure au 13e ou 14e siècle.
