What the French Ministry of Culture records

Jean de So, vicomte d'Evol, fit construire en 1340, non loin d'Olette, un château de défense dit "La Bastide" ou "La Bastida Nova", par opposition au château-fort d'Evol déjà construit. Vers la fin du 15e siècle, une centaine d'habitants se groupèrent autour du château. Le village fortifié disparut vers 1635. En 1820, le propriétaire de la bastide fit tout abattre et ne conserva que les deux tours qui subsistent. Le château se composait d'un carré dont les angles étaient protégés par des tours circulaires dont deux subsistent. La maison d'habitation était appuyée contre le mur oriental, à gauche de la porte d'entrée. Le reste était entouré de fossés entre lesquels était une esplanade ou un petit jardin.
