What the French Ministry of Culture records

Les Anglais, retranchés dans le bois Rudeau, sur le rocher des Bernardières, furent battus par Duguesclin. Antoine d'Authon, seigneur des Bernardières, après avoir vendu son château, bâtit celui des Combes. En 1518, il arme un navire et termine comme pacha d'Alger et amiral de la flotte ottomane sous le nom de Barberousse II en 1546. Le mur d'enceinte est percé d'un portail Henri II. Dans la cour intérieure, tour ronde du 13e siècle, découronnée, reliée par un mur d'enceinte à un donjon carré du 12e siècle. Les terrasses successives sont bordées de balustres Louis XIII. Une porte monumentale de même époque donne sur un escalier enjambant par deux arches un ruisseau.
