What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château de Vixouges (nom de la famille qui le posséda jusqu'au 15e siècle) est un édifice résultant d'une succession de transformations et agrandissements à diverses époques, mais qui présente une certaine homogénéité. Au 13e siècle, se dressait un simple donjon rectangulaire entouré d'une enceinte ; fortement endommagé lors des guerres franco-anglaises, il fut en grande partie remanié et réaménagé (cheminées) au 15e siècle. A la même époque, sont élevées les tours d'enceinte sud-est et sud-ouest. Au 17e siècle, aménagement des ailes ouest (chapelle, four à pain) et est (reconstruction des murs). Au 18e siècle, construction d'un long corps postérieur, réaménagement du premier étage (plafond à caissons peints) , réfection totale des toitures, construction d'un perron et d'un mur de clôture.
