Set on a rocky spur above the Treulon stream, the château de Viré preserves the outline of a 12th century stronghold that was substantially reworked at the end of the 15th century into a Renaissance residence. History records the stay of Bertrand Du Guesclin and his troops here in 1370, on the eve of the Battle of Pontvallain. The property today combines the old buildings, a chapel and gardens whose historic layout has survived.
