In Poillé-sur-Vègre, the Château de Verdelles raises its four corner turrets between defence and refinement, built of brick and stone at the very end of the 15th century. The building marks the shift from medieval fortress to the Italianate decoration of the Louis XII style, visible in particular on a fireplace carved with medallions inspired by the Aeneid. Two rectangular towers have kept their walkway with battlements and machicolations, while the stair tower ends in a turret carved with flamboyant ornament. All the interior fireplaces have survived, direct witnesses to the original fittings.
