The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Vaux-sur-Poligny castle stands on the site of a former Benedictine abbey that became a minor seminary in the nineteenth century. Between 1870 and the late 1880s, Louis Milcent, an auditor at the French Court of Audit and early pioneer of agricultural credit, had a substantial residence built on the remains of an old mill. The Besançon architect Ducat designed the main building, while landscape architect Brice Michel laid out the grounds around the Glantine stream. The estate includes outbuildings, a farm, a funeral chapel, and water gardens that take advantage of the characteristic limestone formations of the Jura region.
