To make a day of it

Château de La Châtelaine stands in La Châtelaine (Jura), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The ruins of the Château de La Châtelaine stand on a rocky plateau 200 metres above the village of Les Planches-près-Arbois, overlooking the source of the Cuisance river. Founded by the counts of Burgundy and first recorded in 1057, the castle was dismantled by the troops of Louis XI in 1479 following the death of Charles the Bold. Covering more than 5 hectares, the site preserves remains of the keep, the lord's residence and an entire fortified village, including a gate tower, watchtowers and a well. Local legend claims a treasure of golden skittles lies buried within the ruins.
