To make a day of it

Château de Présilly stands in Présilly (Jura), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first quarter of the 12th century, 15th century, 16th century, 17th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Standing on the Crotard hill above Présilly, the ruins of this castle overlook the Jura landscape from an 11th-century keep with walls three metres thick. The site preserves the remains of a stronghold that grew over several centuries, culminating in a barbican and gatehouse added in the late 15th century by the heirs of Nicolas Rolin. Dismantled in 1673 on the orders of Lacuzon to keep it out of French hands, the ruins were cleared of overgrowth after the Second World War by volunteer work camps.
