The château de Vassy stands at Étaule, in the Yonne department, on land acquired in the mid 17th century by the Cromot family. The building seen today results from substantial alterations carried out at the end of the 19th century, yet two earlier features have survived: a carved stone portal from the 17th century and a former chapel dated 1700. The chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, still holds coats of arms of the Saillans and Cromot families, along with stained glass and a gilded cross created in 2019 by the artist Marc Couturier.
