To make a day of it

Château de Tramayes stands in Tramayes (Saône-et-Loire), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 16th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

At the pass separating the Grosne and Valouze valleys, the château de Tramayes stands with its rectangular main building flanked by square towers, a remnant of a fortified residence from the very end of the 16th century. The eastern doorway, framed in diamond-pointed rustication and topped by a pediment pierced for a now vanished drawbridge, still recalls this defensive purpose. The estate remains privately owned, but its 19th century park is open to walk through freely.
