To make a day of it

Château de Thorrenc stands in Thorrenc (Ardèche), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century, 16th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In Thorrenc, in the Ardèche region, a 13th century fortified complex stands on a rise of ground that once overlooked the old mule track linking the Velay and Forez areas. Three towers make up the site: a rectangular keep built around 1360, a round 15th century tower with horizontal loopholes and an oubliette, and a third tower dating from the early 16th century. Renaissance buildings and later additions from the 17th and 18th centuries were added to this medieval core, reflecting continuous occupation until the mid 19th century.
