What the French Ministry of Culture records

L’ordre des Célestins naît de l’inspiration de Pietro del Morrone, moine bénédictin des Abruzzes, le 28 août 1248. En 1294, Célestin V approuve les maisons nouvellement fondées et donne son nom à l’ordre. Le premier château-couvent de Colombier est établi en 1339 par Pierre de Colombier. Les vicissitudes de l’Histoire amènent à la destruction, en 1675, d’une grande partie des anciens bâtiments, à l’exception de la tour cardinale, de l’église et du cloître. Le relâchement de l’ordre ainsi que des dépenses inconsidérées conduisent à la disparition des Célestins et des Célestins de Colombier en particulier. La propriété est vendue à la Révolution, l’église détruite et le cloître subit des dommages irréversibles
