To make a day of it

Château de Stors stands in L'Isle-Adam (Val-d'Oise), in the Île-de-France region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century, 19th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The château de Stors stands in the hamlet of the same name, on the slopes above the Oise valley, in the town of L'Isle-Adam. Built in the early 18th century on the foundations of an older structure, it was embellished for the Prince de Conti by the architect Pierre Contant d'Ivry, who laid out a formal garden with terraces, stone ramps and Chinese-style pavilions. Badly damaged by bombing in 1944, the estate fell into long neglect before being bought and restored from 1999 onward by private owners. Today it is the garden features, the basin, terraces and pavilions, that carry historic monument protection.
