To make a day of it

Château de Sarremezan stands in Sarremezan (Haute-Garonne), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Sarremezan Castle preserves the remains of a 15th-century fortress. Its main feature is a robust polygonal tower bearing the architectural marks of its time: characteristic window openings, an interior spiral staircase, and on its western facade a finely decorated door framed by accolade moulding with crockets and pinnacles. A small wing of the same period and a later building from the 18th or early 19th century complete the ensemble. The site is all that survives of what was once a more substantial fortified castle, much of whose defensive walls have been lost.
