To make a day of it

Château de Saint-Brisson stands in Saint-Brisson-sur-Loire (Loiret), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 14th century, 15th century, 16th century, 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Saint-Brisson-sur-Loire, in the Loiret department, this castle follows an unusual hexagonal plan alternating round and square towers, a layout inherited from the Middle Ages. The present building, dating from no earlier than the 13th century despite an older mention, bears the marks of several building campaigns, from the heightened curtain walls of the 15th century to the neo-Gothic interior changes of the 19th century. The stonework still shows these successive alterations: a vanished keep, square towers levelled into pavilions, a neo-classical courtyard façade. The park, with its straight paths, canals and pond, was laid out at the end of the 18th century.
