What the French Ministry of Culture records
Château lié à l'épopée cathare, mentionné dès 1180. Au 13e siècle, il devient un lieu de refuge et de résistance pour les Albigeois. Après la reddition du comte de Foix en 1272, le roi de France fait saisir le château. Donjon refait au 14e siècle ; remaniements aux 15e et 16e siècles. Louis XIII ordonne la démolition du château en 1632.
