To make a day of it

Château de Pulversheim stands in Pulversheim (Haut-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The château of Pulversheim no longer stands: what remains today is only the memory of a small medieval stronghold, built as a square with four round towers, a drawbridge and moats, on what is now rue du Vieil-Armand. Seat of a lordship independent within the Holy Roman Empire, it was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt during the Thirty Years' War, later housing the bailiff of the Rosen family before falling into ruin, its remains gradually disappearing under vegetation and private fences. The site is of interest mainly for the history it tells, that of an Alsatian village moving from medieval serfs to Napoleonic foresters and then to local industrialists.

What to know

  • The medieval château no longer exists: only faint ruined traces remain, hard to make out in a residential area.
  • There is no organized visit or real tourist access to the site of the former stronghold.
  • The site is located in the village of Pulversheim, in the Haut-Rhin département.
  • No opening hours, admission fees or visitor facilities should be expected at this site.
