Standing at the mouth of the Aveyron gorges, the château de Montricoux combines a 12th century keep with a residence remodelled in the 18th century in a Tuscan-inspired style. The fortified tower, completed in 1187, still holds a vaulted guard room with a broken barrel ceiling decorated with geometric frescoes of Moorish influence. Owned in turn by the Templars, the Knights Hospitaller, and later the Duèze and Malartic families, the building now houses a museum devoted to the painter Marcel Lenoir.
