The château de Montbrun, in Verdon, Dordogne, is a Périgord style manor house begun in 1765 for Isaac Jacques de La Valette. Its neoclassical façade lines up five sections of buildings, an unusually complete arrangement for this kind of residence in the region. Notable features include the two wing pavilions flanking the main house, one of which gained an extra storey later on, and the balustraded terrace guarded by two crouching sphinxes.
