What the French Ministry of Culture records

Au 13e siècle, Baneuil appartenait aux d'Abzac. Au 15e siècle, les Calvimont firent probablement construire le corps de logis accosté de la tour ronde, agrémenté d'une tourelle en encorbellement au 16e siècle. L'accès au gros donjon du 11e siècle se faisait par une échelle qui permettait d'accéder à une poterne aérienne ouvrant dans une salle obscure qu'il fallait traverser pour se rendre, par un étroit oculus et au moyen d'échelles, aux étages supérieurs.
