To make a day of it

Château de Mesmont stands in Mesmont (Ardennes), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first quarter of the 17th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The château de Mesmont, also known as château de Romance, stands apart from the village, surrounded by a moat crossed by a fixed bridge and a drawbridge. Dating from the early 17th century, the complex combines brick and stone, with a steep-roofed gatehouse, outbuildings topped with pediment dormers, and a large round tower attached to the main residence. A fire in 1916 destroyed much of the structure, which the Ternaux-Compans family later rebuilt between the two world wars.
