What the French Ministry of Culture records

Une maison forte est attestée à Mazoncle dès le XIVe siècle. En 1559-1565, Antoine de Saint-Anthot (1565) fait construire un nouveau château à côté de l'ancienne maison forte. Le nouveau château adopte un plan et une structure originale : un pavillon carré avec deux tours carrées adossées, flanquée elles-mêmes de deux tours carrées. Le pavillon comporte un grand mur de refend permettant une distribution double des intérieurs, expliquant la désignation de « pavillon double » pour le château dans les textes d'archives. Le corps central et les tours sont couverts de hauts toits en pavillon. Le château constitue le centre d'un petit domaine qui comprend des bâtiments de communs et des jardins. Cet ensemble est réorganisé au cours du XIXe siècle avec la création de nouveaux communs, d'une maison pour le gardien et d'un lavoir. L'ancien jardin régulier est remplacé par un parc au dessin irrégulier agrémenté de fabriques (pigeonnier, grotte).
