In Barran, in the Gers department, the château de Mazères was once the summer residence of the archbishops of Auch, surrounded by moats and arranged around a courtyard with arcaded galleries. Its origins trace back to an agricultural estate from the 11th century, though the building seen today largely took shape through works carried out between the 13th and 18th centuries. Visitors can see the archbishop's bedroom and the salon, both decorated with period plasterwork, as well as a chapel whose painted decor was redone in the 19th century.
