Set at the site of Machuraz in the Valromey region, this château stands on the site of a medieval fortified house and a 16th-century building, before being substantially reworked in the late 19th century under architect Paul Rostagnat. The estate, surrounded by vineyards first planted by Cistercian monks in the Middle Ages, retains vaulted cellars where a column said to be of Roman origin can still be seen. Visitors today find a coherent ensemble of château, outbuildings, stables and cellar, set within grounds where winemaking remains an active pursuit.
