To make a day of it

Château de Laye stands in Arnas (Rhône), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument. No visits are on record for this building.

Château de Laye, built around 1760 by the d'Epinay family, is an 18th-century architectural complex located in Saint-Georges-de-Reneins. Beyond the main building, the estate preserves its chapel, outbuildings, wrought-iron gates, and a landscaped park designed in 1854. The interior features a gilded drawing room with period decoration, as well as a dining room and east salon. Two pavilions known as the Tournelles and the west courtyard with its ornamental ironwork gateways complete this remarkably intact ensemble.

What to know

  • The château and its outbuildings benefit from dual monument historique protection: the first designation in 1974 covers facades, roofs and interior staircase, while the second in 1996 extends to the park, farm buildings and their decoration.
  • The estate spans two communes, Saint-Georges-de-Reneins and Arnas.
  • The landscaped park, created in the 19th century, remains an integral part of the protected property alongside the château and chapel.
