Château de Lavagnac stands in Montagnac (Hérault), in the Occitanie region of France. What the French Ministry of Culture records

Mentionné dès le début du 9e siècle, le lieu de "Lavania" est désigné comme "mansus" en 1123 et "villa" en 1126. Après avoir appartenu au monastère d'Aniane, le terroir de Lavagnac passa, vers le 16e siècle, aux marquis d'Arènes, du Vigan, puis aux Mirman, seigneurs d'Adissan, qui firent construire le château. L'édifice, tout au moins dans sa partie ancienne, était terminé en 1640. L'ensemble était certainement terminé en 1760. L'étude architecturale permet de distinguer au moins deux campagnes de travaux : le château à tourelles avec cour à l'est et escaliers extérieurs ; l'adjonction des écuries et orangeries, des terrasses et fontaines, avec report de l'entrée principale au sud. La première campagne peut se situer entre 1622 et 1640, la seconde dans la première moitié du 18e siècle.
