To make a day of it

Château de La Taillée stands in Échiré (Deux-Sèvres), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The château de La Taillée, built between 1636 and 1642 for the Protestant family of Du Fay, is organized around a courtyard closed to the north by service buildings. The ensemble preserves intact its entrance arrangement: a porch guarded by two domed stone turrets, flanked symmetrically by two pigeon houses. These latter, fitted with vaults and slate roofing, remain striking witnesses to seventeenth-century architecture.
