What the French Ministry of Culture records
Construit au début du 13e siècle, le château fut restauré à la fin du 14e. Dans la seconde moitié du 15e siècle, ce premier château est entièrement reconstruit. Deux tours primitives sont conservées et intégrées à la nouvelle enceinte. A la Renaissance, un grand escalier est construit dans le logis ouest. La propriété du château (anciennement propriété de l'Etat, ministère de la Culture) a été transférée au conseil général (devenu conseil départemental) par convention signée le 1er février 2008 .
