At the place known as la Chassagne, in the commune of Saint-Hilaire-le-Château in the Creuse department, stands a former medieval fortified castle turned guesthouse since 2013. First recorded in the Middle Ages under the name Chassaigne, the site was the seat of a lordship spanning four parishes within the Poitou enclave of Bourganeuf. A land survey from 1576 still describes a castle surrounded by moats and fitted with a drawbridge, both now vanished without visible trace. The estate, bordered by the Thaurion river, lies within a five-hectare wooded park.
