What the French Ministry of Culture records

Forteresse construite par l'ordre de Malte, remaniée vers 1455. En 1589, les Ligueurs entrent dans le château et pillent la chapelle. En 1793, le château est vendu comme bien national. La chapelle à absidioles et bas-côtés est détruite. L'édifice se présente comme une masse rectangulaire flanquée de quatre tours. Un escalier à vis dessert l'ensemble du château, situé dans la tour carrée autrefois plus élevée. Il existait d'autres escaliers dans les tours. Des vestiges de corbeaux marquent le départ de l'enceinte fortifiée qui entourait également la chapelle.
