In the Doubs department, the château de Jallerange is known less for its restrained 18th century main building than for its gardens, a rare surviving example of two contrasting landscape styles. On one side lies a formal French garden laid out in 1771, with terraces, a pool and clipped hedges, on the other an English style garden planted in 1846 around an ice house. The estate's winemaking outbuildings, cellar, orangery and steward's house, recall that the property also lived off its vineyards.
