Le donjon du 13e siècle semble avoir conservé à peu près intactes ses dispositions primitives de défense. Des ouvertures ont été percées aux 14e et 15e siècle. Il serait la première conquête de Duguesclin en 1354. Les parties hautes ont sans doute été arasées par Louis XIV.
