Coigny castle, known as the old castle, stands in Montsenelle, in the Manche department, within a wide square enclosure still ringed by its moat. Built in the early 17th century by Antoine de Franquetot and completed by his son, the first Duke of Coigny, it retains a central dwelling and large outbuildings. Inside, a Renaissance Italian style fireplace carved with columns, pilasters and foliage ornament is the only part of the building listed as a historic monument.
