What the French Ministry of Culture records

L'existence d'un manoir est attestée à Coëtbo depuis le 15e siècle. Il appartint aux Le Borgne (15e siècle) , aux Avril et aux Gallery (16e siècle) , aux Troussier (début 17e siècle) , et aux de Marnière, qui firent partie du milieu parlementaire rennais jusqu'en 1792. L'édifice actuel serait le résultat d'une reconstruction progressive à partir de 1620. En 1647, M. et Mme de Pontchâteau s'assurèrent les services d'un architecte du roi, Pierre Hureau, pour tirer parti des édifices existants en les étoffant par un corps de logis prolongeant les bâtiments primitifs. Après 1685, date de l'acquisition de Coëtbo par Julien de Marnière, ses successeurs firent disparaître les tours et autres vestiges du manoir médiéval et perfectionnèrent les aménagements intérieurs et extérieurs du château.
