The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century, 18th century, 19th century). In Châteauneuf-Grasse, the present château stands on the ruins of a 12th-century stronghold destroyed during the incursions of Charles V. The building seen today was erected between 1625 and 1627 by Hubert de Puget Saint-Marc, then substantially altered in the 18th century, with reworked façades and a modernised interior layout. Owned successively by the Puget and Geoffroy du Rouret families, the estate long combined a seigneurial residence with farmland, including crops of jasmine and rose grown for the perfume trade of Grasse.
