To make a day of it

Château de château-Vieux stands in Entrelacs (Savoie), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

On the commune of Entrelacs, in Savoy, the ruins of château-Vieux stand on a rise that once overlooked the route to the Sapenay pass. What remains today, a square Romanesque keep from the 12th century joined to a later round tower, recalls a stronghold that served as the seat of a comital castellany contested between the houses of Geneva and Savoy. The site, hard to reach and largely collapsed since a lightning strike in the 19th century, keeps the bare look of a defensive structure rather than a residence of leisure.
