On the hilltop above the village of Cessens-Vieux, in the commune of Entrelacs in Savoie, stand the ruins of the Château-Neuf, a fortified stronghold built in the 13th and 14th centuries. The site was long disputed between the lords of Faucigny, the counts of Geneva and the House of Savoy, which eventually took control of it. Visitors can still see the quadrangular stone enclosure, the remains of a round keep now levelled to a few metres, and a well in the corner of the former courtyard. The appeal lies in the medieval military architecture and the view from this raised position.
