To make a day of it

Château de Charmont-sous-Barbuise stands in Charmont-sous-Barbuise (Aube), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In the Aube department, the château de Charmont sous Barbuise stands on the site of a medieval seigneurial stronghold first recorded in the 13th century, which was destroyed and rebuilt several times before the present building was constructed by Joseph Aimé Hennequin in 1725. Left derelict around the mid 20th century, it was later bought by private owners who now maintain it and open it occasionally to visitors. The grounds host community events, including performances held to raise funds for the restoration of a nearby church.
