To make a day of it
Château d'Arcis-sur-Aube stands in Arcis-sur-Aube (Aube), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first half of the 18th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
In Arcis-sur-Aube, on the place des Héros, the former castle of the Grassin and later La Briffe families now serves as the town hall. Built in the early eighteenth century on the remains of a medieval stronghold destroyed by fire, it retains one tower from that period, once used as a bailiff's prison. Napoleon I made it his headquarters in 1814 during the battle of Arcis-sur-Aube, and marks from artillery fire can still be seen on its walls. Visitors today can see the facades, the entrance hall, the staircase and the wedding hall.
