What the French Ministry of Culture records

En 1333, la terre de Chailloué est aux mains de Jean de Vieupont. Cette « maison forte » demeure dans la famille de Vieupont au cours du 17ème siècle. Elle se présente comme une demeure entourée par des douves, un pont-levis et quatre tourelles de défense. On retrouve des références médiévales dans les soubassements du château, même si le 17ème siècle s'impose nettement par la présence dominante de la grande tour nord-ouest surmontée de son lanternon ainsi que des deux pavillons d'entrée. Le château a fait l'objet de nombreux remaniements.
