What the French Ministry of Culture records
Fortification médiévale urbaine du 11e siècle. L'ouvrage est constitué par un tertre de terre de 40 mètres de diamètre à la base, pour une hauteur de près de neuf mètres. A l'origine, un système de fossés et de talus délimitant une ou plusieurs basses cours complétait le monument, pour constituer un véritable ensemble castral possédant son propre lieu de culte, l'église Saint-Pierre. Le tracé actuel semble avoir fossilisé la limite de l'enclave castrale dans son extension maximale du 14e siècle.
